Admin’s Note: The stated goals of executive committees and associations are very similar. The main difference is that executive committees are made up of elected officers of the Democratic Party, whereas associations can include all Democrats from geographic region. If you are looking to learn more about the Democratic Party and find like-minded citizens in your area, look for an association. If you have official party business, look for an Executive Committee.
Local Organizations and Committees:
Berkeley County Democratic Association: [The purpose of BCDA is t]o grow the Democratic Party in Berkeley County, to provide a large pool of supporters and volunteers for a wide range of projects and campaigns, to provide financial support for the general elections, and to optimize Democratic registration, Democratic voting and Democratic voter turnout in Berkeley County.
Berkeley County Executive Committee: The primary role of the Committee is to encourage county residents to register to vote and support Democratic candidates seeking election in West Virginia. The Committee joins with other Democratic organizations in the county, region, state, and nation to promote the Democratic platform, ideals, and slate of candidates, but as a state political action committee, it may only provide financial aid to candidates for offices within the state.
Jefferson County Democratic Association: The purpose of the Jefferson County Democratic Association is to help elect Democrats to local, state, and national office. To accomplish this, the Association will expand and unite the Democratic Party in Jefferson County for the common cause and good of the Party; advocate and disseminate information about Democratic Party principles and policies; encourage citizens to participate in the governmental process; and support Democratic candidates at the local, state, and national level.
Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee: The JCDEC’s primary role is to encourage county residents to register to vote and support Democratic candidates. The Committee works with other Democratic organizations in the county, region, state, and nation to promote the Democratic platform, ideals, and candidate slate; however, as a state political action committee, JCDEC may only provide financial aid to candidates for offices within West Virginia.
Eastern Panhandle Young Democrats: The goals of EPYD is to cultivate young Democrats in Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan Counties who do not have access to a local chapter; to help local chapters with recruitment; to develop more local chapters throughout the counties and to support and elect Democratic candidates for public office. West Virginia Young Democrats: The West Virginia Young Democrats (WVYD) is a broad-based, youth-led grassroots political organization. Young Democrats of America: The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the largest youth-led, national, partisan political organization. YDA mobilizes young people under the age of 36 to participate in the electoral process, influences the ideals of the Democratic Party, and develops the skills of the youth generation to serve as leaders at the local and national level.
Democratic National Committee: Primary source of information about the Democratic Party, position on issues, our leaders, and the primary fundraising arm of Democratic party.
Organizing for Action: Born out of the campaign to re-elect President Barack Obama, OFA is an issue advocacy group formed to support the agenda a majority of Americans voted for in 2012. From issues like pushing for a better bargain for the middle class and comprehensive immigration reform to climate change and gun violence prevention, OFA is working to restore the balance of power away from the special interests and into the hands of Americans who are raising their voices in communities across the country.
